Ephemerality and transformation, light and shadow, structure and collapsibility, the designed and the organic are all qualities that I explore in my work to manufacture moments of surprise and delight.
Over the years, I've gravitated towards the elements of spirituality that are universal to all humans as I personally work through the concept of man-made religion. I believe in wonder. The lump in your throat, welling emotion when you look out into a vast ocean, a sunbeam breaks through the clouds or when you stare at the rain through a foggy window. A sense of mystery, calm and peace wash over you. My work is for those who look at these things and instantly feel connected to their world and whatever is beyond.
This initial reaction then progresses into a curiosity about the process. Using my industrial design training, I devise systems and processes to create these works using computer aided design and man-made materials. Once the planning is done, the execution becomes meditative with its repetitive tasks and rhythm. And I find peace.
