The Whole Picture - 3D Monofilament Mirrors
In the wall pieces, a series of curved transparent lines are mounted on mirrored backgrounds and come together to form delicate, gossamer volumes. At first view, the mirrors seem to be etched with fine line patterns, but upon closer viewing, one sees that the lines are coming out of the mirror and have dimension to them. The lines of the forms are reflected in the mirror, completing the volume. Reflection of the surrounding environment completes the illusion of shapes floating in air. And reflection of the viewer reminds us that the individual’s perception is integral to the completion of the piece in the mind’s eye. Because of the translucency of the monofilament and the way it captures light, the pieces have a kinetic quality to them when you move around them.
